“Asturias” is in its concept the most romantic of Albéniz's pieces, i.a. a picture of sound telling a story.
The greatest possible adherence to the text notes was the basis for this arrangement of Asturias, Isaac Albéniz's most popular piece from the “Suite espagnola”. The sixteenth of the first part, which are strictly kept up in the original emphazise the poetic character of a “Leyenda” (legend) than the otherwise more common variation of triplets which is being used for guitar arrangements. The transposition from g-minor to a-minor also provides a greater utilisation of the guitar's volume of sound and makes it playable easier.

As is the case with “Rumores de la Caleta” the roots of “Sevilla” are to be found in the Flamenco. The “sevillanas” is a gracious, elegant dance from the town of Sevilla. The rhythmic “rasgueado” of the Flamenco as well as the typical key of A-major of the sevillanas gives the piece, when played by the guitar, its inherent lightness and rich sound.
